Hey Guardians – Issue #1
Where It All Began
Hi Guardians,
Welcome to the very first issue of this newsletter—I’m truly excited you’re here. Before we dive into the next book, I want to share something more personal: the story behind the story.
Many people ask me where Destroyer: Guardians of Life came from. The truth is, it didn’t begin with epic world-building or fantasy battles. It began with my daughter when she was five years old. We’d make up stories together—my wild imagination and my love for storytelling merging into something magical. Those bedtime tales eventually grew, especially as I shared them with my nieces and nephews too.
But even before all of that, the seed was planted when I was just a teenager growing up in the Bronx during the unique and gritty days of 1970s New York City. Life wasn’t always easy, but the community, the friendships, the sounds, the streets—they were full of stories.
I remember junior high school—PS 90 in the Bronx, now known as Sheridan Academy for Young Leaders. I had many friends, but one in particular—a talented artist—encouraged me to keep drawing. I wasn’t much of an artist, but I began sketching a simple comic series on notebook paper—just pencil, no color, just story. One of the characters was inspired by the superheroes I grew up loving. My friend didn’t care that the drawings were rough—he was hooked by the story. That moment stuck with me.
Looking back, that might’ve been when my journey as a storyteller truly began. Just a kid with a pencil, a few folded pages, and a head full of ideas.
This newsletter will be where I share more of that journey—behind-the-scenes insights from Book 2, updates on the creative process, and the memories that shaped Destroyer.
And speaking of that journey… after years of dreaming, creating, and rewriting—while being a husband, father, and student—I finally published my first book: Destroyer: Guardians of Life.
This wasn’t a weekend project. It’s been 18 years in the making—built on a foundation of family, imagination, perseverance, and love. The book has received incredible feedback and strong reviews, and I couldn’t be more proud.
One of the most special parts of this journey? Collaborating with my daughter. From the stories we created when she was little to the stunning cover art she designed as a gifted artist today—her creativity is woven into the very heart of this world. People often tell me the cover was what first caught their eye. Hmm… I wonder where that talent came from. 😊😉
If you haven’t picked up Destroyer: Guardians of Life yet, I invite you to dive in. And if you already have—get ready. Book 2 is on the way. I’ll be sharing early glimpses and story details with you right here.
Because if you thought Destroyer was powerful, just wait until you step into Book 2. It’s going to take you to a whole new level—one you won’t see coming.
Stay tuned Guardians,
Anthony Segarra – Author
P.S. I’ll be sharing updates about once a month or every other month—just enough to keep you in the loop with creative insights, behind-the-scenes moments, and what’s coming next. No fluff—just real stories from my writing journey.
